Historic Week Continues In New Jersey

Historic Week continued at the Meadowlands on Thursday evening with the next wave of pacing and trotting superstars doing battle in divisions of the E. H. Harriman Cup and the Goshen Cup

Two-year-old trotting colts and geldings squared off in the E.H. Harriman Cup, with Flex The Muscle taking the $30,520 opening division in a career-best clocking of 1:59.1 for trainer/driver Ray Schnittker. It was the first lifetime start for the son of Muscles Yankee-Alix Hall defeated Wishing Stone and Woody Marvel. The $140,000 Harrisburg Yearling Sale purchase is owned by Schnittker, Jerry Silva and Arden Homestead Stable.

The second $30,020 division saw Break The Bank K rally for a 48-1 victory in a time of 1:57.4 for the tandem of driver Ron Pierce and trainer Rich Gillock. The son of Revenue S-American Misty, who was making his first start for owner/breeder Bob Key of Leechburg, PA, knocked off race favourite Big Stick Lindy and Classical.

The final $30,520 split saw Lucky Chucky upset to the tune of 11-1 for driver John Campbell in a time of 1:59.2. The Chuck Sylvester-trained son of Windsongs Legacy-Aerobics, who was making his debut, defeated Classic Viking and Ripken. Sylvester co-owns the $10,000 Harrisburg Yearling Sale purchase with Neal Goldman and Amy Stoltzfus.

In the $39,831 opening division of the Goshen Cup for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings, Blue Rock won his debut in a time of 1:54 for driver Jack Baggitt, Jr. and trainer Ronnie Burke. The son of Rocknroll Hanover-Lady Indigo, who was a $47,000 Lexington Select Yearling Sale purchase, won as he pleased over Gota Go Bullville and Highbeta Blue Chip. The colt is owned in partnership by Burke Racing Stable LLC, Randy Ringer, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and JJK Stables LLC.

Fresh off their win in last Saturday’s Pepsi North America Cup, driver Ron Pierce and trainer Steve Elliott were back to work and winning with Mr Salvatore Fra, who stepped to a 1:55.2 win in his $39,331 division of the Goshen Cup. The son of Western Ideal-Yankee Scramble won as the 3-2 favourite over Joey The Czar and Mcgreat. The Fra Stable LLC of Upper Saddle River, NJ holds the papers on the colt, who was a $22,000 purchase from the 2008 New Jersey Classic Yearling Sale.
