Trainer Ben Wallace has told Trot Insider that his stable star, Apprentice Hanover p,4,1:49.2s ($941,934) is being given some much deserved down time before bringing him back for his five-year-old campaign in 2015.

"He came within a few feet of winning both the Levy and the Molson Pace," stated Wallace, "which is very rare for a four-year-old to accomplish."

Apprentice Hanover, by Somebeachsomewhere, faced the gate 27 times this season and earned just over $429,000 in purse earnings. Owned by Brad Grant of Milton, Ont. and driven primarily by Jody Jamieson, Apprentice Hanover won nine of his seasonal starts, recorded five second-place finishes and notched six thirds. He lowered his career mark to 1:49.2 during the Mohawk meet and was sharp when Wallace opted to shut him down.

"He won his last Preferred of the season and was in real top form doing so,” Wallace told Trot Insider. “He had a long year, and a really good year, and we were happy to put him away while he was still in such good form."

From 56 career starts, Apprentice Hanover has won 20 races, recorded seven seconds and 11 thirds and boasts a mark of 1:49.2.
