Michael George Harris Passes

Longtime horseman Michael George Harris passed away at I.O.O.F. Seniors Home in Barrie, Ont. on Tuesday, March 11 in his 80th year.

Harris was born in Hounslow, London, England on December 11, 1934 and immigrated to Canada in 1961. As a teenager, he apprenticed with London Transport as an electrician. Harris served with the Royal Air Force. In the 70’s, he settled in New Lowell starting Sunnidale Racing Stables as a standardbred horseman, racing mostly at the Barrie, Orangeville and Hanover racetracks. Later, with wife Vicki, they started Sunnidale Boarding Kennel.

Loving husband to Vicki of Wasaga Beach. Loving father to Geoffrey (Terri) of Edmonton and Wendy (Brian White) of Collingwood.

Remembered by grandchildren Candace, Andrew, Courtney and Brooke. Great-grandfather to Sophia. Stepfather to Michael, Stephen (Ann) and Jeffrey, and grandfather to Sean, Emily, Matthew, Megan, Melissa, Danielle and Juston. Survived by sister Joy Grisby of Penarth, Wales. Uncle to nieces Carol, Pam and Cathy, and nephew Trevor, all of the U.K.

At his request there will be cremation with no service. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Ontario Lung Association (www.on.lung.ca).
