It was announced today that Break The Bank K 2,1:55.3f; 3,1:51.3, a millionaire and winner of the 2010 Breeders Crown Three-Year-Old Colt Trot, will stand his first season at stud in 2013.

He will stand for a fee of $3,500, or $3,000 for multiple bookings at Midland Acres in Bloomingburg, Ohio.

“Since Jailhouse Jesse and Justice Hall moved to our Indiana farm, we’ve been on the lookout for the right trotting sire to replace them in Ohio. We found him in Break The Bank K,” said Dr. John Mossbarger of Midland Acres.

“It looks like we’ve finally turned the corner here with the arrival of slots, and breeders are optimistic about the future of the Ohio Sire Stakes and improved purses in general. There’s been a lot of demand for a high-quality trotting sire in Ohio, and Break The Bank K certainly fits the bill,” he added.

Break The Bank K, campaigned in the successful racing stable of Bob Key and trained by Trond Smedshammer as a three-year-old, was driven exclusively that season by Brian Sears. Sears had high praise for the trotter. “He’s a very well-made horse, wore very little equipment and had very high speed,” he said. “He’s got all the attributes to be a very successful sire.”

As a two-year-old in 2009, Break The Bank K, a son of Revenue S from the American Winner mare American Misty, won the year’s first open stake, the Harriman Cup at the Meadowlands, and went on to win five more stakes races that season.

He defeated eventual freshman trotting champion Lucky Chucky in the Matron elim at Dover Downs, winning that race with an explosive come-from-behind move in 1:55.3, just one-fifth of a second off the North American Season’s Record.

He came back as a three year old to again defeat Lucky Chucky in the $500,000 Breeders Crown at Pocono, and also captured his elim of the $1,000,000 Canadian Trotting Classic (second in the final) and the Bluegrass Stakes in Lexington, where he trotted to his career mark of 1:51.3.

Mossbarger was optimistic that Break The Bank K’s pedigree is also good fit for Ohio. “Break The Bank K provides an outcross to many of today’s mares, being a son of Revenue S, who also sired this year’s Hambletonian winner, Market Share,” Mossbarger said. “We hope he plays a big role in Ohio’s future.”
