Explosive Matter Passes

Explosive Matter

Reports from Europe indicate that former North American-based stallion Explosive Matter has been euthanized at the age of 18.

Explosive Matter (Cantab Hall-Fireworks Hanover) had 20 career starts, earning $1,528,266 from a record of 11-6-1. He raced as a freshman and sophomore with his career best performance in 1:52.3 at The Meadowlands in the 2009 first elimination of the Hambletonian. After his tenure in the states, Explosive Matter raced two times overseas in Italy before retiring to stud.

After retiring at the end of 2009, Explosive Matter stood at Hanover Shoe Farms for nine years until 2019, when he was relocated to Sweden to continue his stud duties. In the nine years at Hanover Shoe Farms, Explosive Matter sired 683 foals with 521 making it to the races while earning in excess of $48 million. His most notable offspring was 2015 Hambletonian winner and multiple award winner Pinkman (1:51; $3,009,653).

After an incident occurred in Denmark that injured one of his handlers, Explosive Matter was relocated to Finland; however, the aggressive behavior progressed and the decision was made to euthanize the stallion.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of Explosive Matter.
