Jody Goes Wire-To-Wire At Dover

Jody made every pole a winning one and and was victorious in the $35,135 Mares Open Handicap Pace at Bally’s Dover on Wednesday night, March 6.

Jody took on the elements leaving alertly from post eight at the start of the race and grabbed the early lead. Tae retreated to the pocket. Even-odds race favourite Incaseyoudidntlnow had the best view from last at the quarter-pole. Jody carved out fractions of :27.2 to the quarter over the sloppy track.

She continued on an uncontested lead to the half in :56.1. Southwind Icenfire moved first-up down the backstretch. Disturbed Hanover followed second-over and Incaseyoudidntknow gapped cover, third-over on the rim.

Jody continued on a comfortable lead at the three-quarters in 1:24.4. At the top of the stretch, Incaseyoudidntknow gained momentum quickly, pacing four-wide in the lane. Jody was able to hold off that late charge and won by a half-length in 1:52.4. She returned $10.20 for the win.

The daughter of Betterthancheddar-Topgun Lady is owned by Reginald A. Hazzard II from Millsboro, Delaware. Wayne Givens trained and Allan Davis drove the six-year-old mare, who has now won half of her eight seasonal starts.

Incaseyoudidntlnow was a fast-closing second and Tae picked up the show spot.

Post time at Bally’s Dover on Thursday is 4:30 p.m. Penzance Hanover seeks to win his fourth consecutive race in the 12th race Blue Hen/Open Handicap Pace. His main competition will come from a rested I Did It Myway, Mack and Pocono Downs shipper Maximus Miki.
