Leonard Kordy Passes

In loving memory of Len Kordy

Longtime Standardbred owner and breeder Leonard Kordy passed away peacefully at the Bayshore Transitional Care Centre at the Windsor Retirement Home in Amherstview, Ont. on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023 at the age of 92.

Beloved husband of the late Mary Kordy. Much loved father of Debra Gilbert (Ron). Cherished grandfather of Matthew and Jennifer (Sammer). Great grandfather of Noah, Lana Rose and Wil. Leonard will be lovingly remembered by his special companion Betty Turcotte. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Len, as he was known to his many friends, owned and bred a number of horses over the past 50 years. Two of his favourites were J R Freda and Come Back, who won two divisions of The Count B Series at Woodbine Racetrack. Len also won multiple Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots races with Pilgrims Joy, a trotter he owned and bred. He enjoyed travelling in general and throughout Ontario to watch his horses race.

Len, who was living in Kingston, Ont. at the time of his passing, enjoyed spending time talking about his family, the many horses he had owned and his many travels. When he wasn’t attending yearling sales, he could often be found at the casino in Atlantic City or Gananoque (Ontario) with his partner of many years, Betty.

Burial has taken place at the St. Johns Catholic cemetery.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Len Kordy.
