Q3 National Racing Statistics Report

Standardbred Canada proudly releases its Q3 National Horse Racing Statistics Report, showcasing significant growth across all key metrics. The third quarter of the year marked a notable year-over-year increase in the horse racing industry, reflecting the robust health and growing popularity of the sport in Canada.

Key Highlights:

  • Increase in Number of Races: A jump from 3,962 to 4,067 races, with the Atlantic region leading with a remarkable 12% increase.
  • Growth in Number of Starts: Nationally, starts rose by 5%, featuring a 12% increase in the Atlantic region and a 10% increase in the Western region.
  • Rise in Unique Horses: The count of unique horses participating increased by 3%, from 4,165 to 4,290, with positive trends reported across all regions.
  • Higher Average Starts per Horse: The average number of starts per horse improved by 2% in Q3.
  • Substantial Increase in Purses: Year-over-year purse totals leaped from approximately $46 million to $48 million, with the Atlantic Region experiencing a 22% surge and the Western region a 7% increase.
  • Boost in Handle: A 4% national increase in handle, highlighted by a 42% rise in Quebec, 36% in the Atlantic Region, and 28% in the Western Region.
