Ponda Jewel Tops First Hoosier Classic Session

Ponda Jewel fetched the highest price during the opening session of the 2023 Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale on Friday, Oct. 20 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis.

A daughter of Swan For All - Aperfectcrystal consigned by Pond A Acres and sold as Hip 154, Ponda Jewel was collared by Pete Wrenn, acting as agent for McDuffee and L&L DeVisser, for $130,000. Ponda Jewel is the first foal from Aperfectcrystal, a stakes-placed sister to multiple stakes winner Aperfectyankee (1:53f; $588,369).

The highest priced pacing-bred yearling was Hip 129, Martz Jak, who sold for $108,000. The son of JK Endofanera - A And Gs Finest, consigned by Rollin Acres, was purchased by Pat DeLong of South Beloit, Il. Martz Jak is a half-brother to Rose Run Uriah (1:50s; $414,733), Rose Run Run Vision (1:50; $406,582), Rose Run Toni (1:51.4f; $290,771) and 2023 two-year-old stakes winner Martz Telly (1:51.2s; $208,368).

Hip 75, Ponda Ferarri (JK Endofanera - Sweetnsinful) sold for $100,000 to Tom Pollack of Venetia, Pa. The Pond A Acres-consigned colt is a half-brother to the 2023 Dan Patch Stakes winner Ponda Warrior (1:48s; $714,490).

Hopeyaliketheshow rounded out the six-figure yearlings and the third JK Endofanera to reach that threshold. Selling as Hip 115 and consigned by Wilt Standardbred, Hopeyaliketheshow (JK Endofanera - Dont Forget will report to Burke Racing of Fredericktown, Pa. Hopeyaliketheshow is the second foal of his dam, a sister speedy stakes winner Reflect With Me (1:48.2; $782,268) and a sister to the dam of Little Brown Jug winner Lous Pearlman (1:47.4; $1.1 million).

The third Pond A Acres-consigned yearling in the session's highest-priced yearlings, GW Ponda (Rockin Image - Sayulita) sold for $92,000 to Rocco Ruffolo of Chicago, Il. Sold as Hip 24, GW Ponda is the first foal of his dam, an open class-winning sister to O'Brien Award-winning millionaire Bettors Up (1:49.4s; $1.07 million).

A total of 207 yearlings sold on Friday for a total of $4,309,700 to provide an average of $20,820. The sale continues with its second session on Saturday, Oct. 21 selling Hips 216-415.
