So Much More Holds Off Mohawk Mares

So Much More winning at Woodbine Mohawk Park

Canada's sweetheart So Much More added another Fillies & Mares Preferred victory to her achievements on Friday night at Woodbine Mohawk Park, holding off rivals on both sides in deep stretch.

Despite being handicapped outside of six other top distaffers in the $32,000 pace, So Much More and her regular reinsman James MacDonald made front before the first turn and cut fractions of :27.1, :55.3 and 1:23.4 en route to a 1:50.2 triumph by half a length, holding off Dabarndawgswatchin (Louis-Philippe Roy), who rallied from third turning for home, and the pylon-skimming pocket pursuer Western Wish (Tyler Borth).

Trained by Don Beatson and co-owned with his son Kenn Beatson and grandson Cole England, the seven-year-old Big Jim-Ladysai mare is closing in on $1.5 million in lifetime earnings. She is nine-for-19 this year and now has 66 career wins.

The two-time O'Brien Award-winning mare paced a lifetime-best 1:49.1 two starts ago on June 24 in the Mares Preferred and was the 2-5 favourite in her return to the distaff division after a runner-up finish against the boys last time out on July 8. She paid $2.90 to win.
