Cool Clifford Coasts In Flamboro Feature

Flamboro Downs racing action

Gabby Sasso trainee Cool Clifford returned off a three-week layoff to put forth a front-stepping effort and take the $10,000 featured trot at Flamboro Downs on Sunday night (Jan. 8).

Driver Tyler Borth bolted the 6-5 favourite to the top with Brady Bunch securing the pocket and Lucas NL floating into third to a :28.3 first quarter. Snagging a breather to a :59.1 half, Cool Clifford braced for a fierce first-over push from Lucas NL into the backside, which upped the tempo towards three-quarters in 1:27.4. Lucas NL began levelling off around the final turn and dove to the open stretch off the corner, but Cool Clifford trotted resolutely to the line to win by three-quarter lengths in 1:58. Brady Bunch finished third and Lucky Rascal took fourth.

A seven-year-old gelding by Kadabra, Cool Clifford collected his 17th win from 107 starts and has now earned $308,080. Martwest Racing Stable and Jeff Courchesne own the gelding who paid $4.30 to win.
