Need To Breathe Repeats Against Mohawk Mares

Need To Breathe winning at Woodbine Mohawk Park

Need To Breathe was a repeat winner in the $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park, taking the Friday feature in 1:53.4 for the Cullen stable.

Trained by Jodie Cullen and driven by Travis Cullen, Need To Breathe looped early leaver Sporty Tori for the lead after a :28 opening quarter then cruised through middle splits of :57.3 and 1:25.3 before opening up a couple lengths through the stretch to win her second straight.

Sent postward as the 8-5 second choice in the field of six distaffers, Need To Breathe returned $5.20 to win. The 7-5 favourite, Dabarndawgswatchin (Louis Philippe-Roy), rallied off cover to nab the runner-up honours from Sporty Tori (Bob McClure).

Need To Breathe won her four-year-old debut after taking a sloppy edition of the Preferred in dominant fashion on Dec. 30. The daughter of Riggins joined the Cullen stable last fall after winning the Indiana Sire Stakes Super Final and is owned by A1stable of Dundas, Ont., Paul Sanders of Surrey, B.C., and Blair Kidd of Miniota, Man. She notched career win number 10 and lifted her bankroll to $285,125.

Trainer Kyle Fellows enjoyed a perfect night going three-for-three on Friday's 11-race program as he sent out winners Tesla Power ($2.80 to win, driven by Jonathan Drury), Mach My Kiss ($5.80, Trevor Henry) and P L Ooooooooooyah ($8.90, Doug McNair).
