Waitin Ona River Usurps ‘Armycaptin’ At Fraser

After toppling the winner of five consecutive events at Fraser Downs' top class last week, Waitin Ona River again downed Armycaptin Hanover to win the $10,000 Open Pace on Sunday (Nov. 13).

Trainer-driver Kevin Anderson settled into third with Waitin Ona River while Tiempo Hanover took control to a :29.1 first quarter and cruised to a :58.2 half. Outlaw C My Shadow angled off the pylons in the sprint up the backside and drew near equal terms with the pacesetter after three-quarters in 1:26.2. That pair battled side by side into the line as Waitin Ona River and Armycaptin Hanover swung into action and hit top gear. Waitin Ona River had a one-length jump on the odds-on choice into the stretch and that margin proved a strong-enough cushion to land a 9-1 upset in 1:54.2. Armycaptin Hanover settled for second with Tiempo Hanover taking third and Outlaw C My Shadow fourth.

A 10-year-old gelding by JK Royal Flush, Waitin Ona River won his 22nd race from 216 starts and has now earned $200,065. Anderson owns the gelding who paid $20.10 to win.
