Prestige Duharas Takes Prospect At Kawartha

Harness racing at Kawartha Downs

The team of trainer Denis Gueriel and driver Loic Gueriel connected to deliver a 2:01.1 victory with the Prestidigitator gelding Prestige Duharas in the lone $7,200 Prospect Series dash for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings at Kawartha Downs on Saturday night (Aug. 27).

Gueriel settled into the pocket with Prestige Duharas while Oceanview Massey led the field by the quarter in :28.4. A breather by the tempo-setter to a 1:00.2 half forced the hand of Prestige Duharas to attack off the pegs, and he cleared the lead from Oceanview Massey in the backstretch. Impressive Dude, recovering from a break at the start, ventured uncovered to challenge the new leader to three-quarters in 1:30.4 but was promptly turned away. Prestige Duharas turned for home and held firm on the lead to the finish to keep late-charge He Will at bay by a half length while Oceanview Massey finished third and Impressive Dude settled for fourth.

Winning his first race from three starts, Prestige Duharas has now banked $7,150 for owner-breeder Haras De L'Estrie Inc. He paid $6.30 to win.
