Yonkers Celebrates Season's Best Handle

Yonkers Raceway established a new high water mark for handle so far in 2022 on Monday night as a total of $1,260,683 and change was wagered on the 12-race program.

This bettered the previous best of $1,175,667 set on April 25 when Yonkers hosted the finals of the MGM Borgata Pacing Series and the Blue Chip Matchmaker Series.

The final nine dashes on the program had total pools in the six-figure range, including the featured $39,000 Open Handicap Pace, which was won by 6-1 shot Speed Man N (Joe Bongiorno) on the front-end in 1:51.3. He defeated favoured Runrunjimmydunn N (Jason Bartlett) by 2-1/4 lengths, and Priceless Beach (Yannick Gingras) rallied from sixth to third in the last quarter.

An eight-year-old New Zealand-bred gelding by Rocknroll Hanover, Speed Man N is trained by Doug Dilloian, Jr. for owners Dilloian Stable LLC and Pit Bull Stable LLC. This was Speed Man N’s 28th career victory, and he has now earned $422,275. Speed Man N paid $14.60 to win.

Action resumes at Yonkers on Tuesday night (May 10) at 6:55 p.m. Yonkers is currently hosting live racing on a Monday-Tuesday-Thursday-Friday-Saturday schedule.
