Canada's Early Season Leaders

A couple months into the 2022 harness racing season, Trot Insider has compiled an update on the drivers and trainers that have taken the early lead in the national standings.

Doug McNair leads all drivers in Canada for earnings heading into the month of March with his mounts having banked $853,307, while reigning Driver of the Year James MacDonald is a close second with $846,990 in purse earnings. Brett MacDonald tops those two reinsmen by a slim margin in the win column with 60 victories. McNair is just three wins behind followed by James MacDonald, who has driven 55 winners. Louis-Philippe Roy follows in third for money earned with $630,684. Meanwhile, Marc St. Louis Jr. boasts the highest UDRS at 0.599, with Phil Giesbrecht (0.492) and Brandon Campbell (0.434) rounding out the top three in that category.

Carmen Auciello is the leading trainer for both wins (46) and earnings ($786,618) early in 2022, while nine-time Trainer of the Year Richard Moreau sits second with his stable winning 41 races and $549,304 in purses. Ranked third for wins with 30, Tyler Nostadt sports a 0.521 leading UTRS ahead of Brandon Campbell (0.474) and Trevor Williams (0.435). Jodie Cullen cracked the top three for earnings with $284,408.
