Quinn Stays Quiet On Illinois Expansion

Although Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has gone on the record as saying that the gaming expansion bill which currently sits on his desk is excessive and over the top, he has reportedly not been tipping his hand one way or the other in regard to how he is going to ultimately rule on the issue

.

According to a report by stltoday.com, Quinn, who has the ability to veto the gaming expansion, has been told that finding the right balance to the bill is not as easy as just deleting aspects of the proposed state gaming expansion, as the piece of legislation just barely passed the legislation before landing on his desk.

The article states that in a private meeting on Thursday, June 16, Quinn asked a lot of questions regarding the bill, but did not convey anything in relation to his feelings on it. The report described Quinn as being in fact-finding mode.

State Rep. Lou Lang, the bill’s sponsor in the House, was quoted as saying that "It was a good meeting" on Thursday, but that "there was no hint as to what the governor did or didn't want in the bill."

The legislation would see the state of Illinois be the home of five new casinos. Existing casinos would be able to expand their operations and all of the state's raceways would be able to erect an area for slot machine gaming. In addition, slots would be installed at the Illinois State Fairgrounds and at Chicago airports.
