Lederman Braces For Fight Of His Life

."I can't let anybody down. As much as I'm going to try for me and my family, I don't want to let anybody down. Everybody's cheering for me, everybody's been there. Sam, I'm going to fight this and I'm going to do everything I can to beat it."

On Friday night, announcer Larry Lederman talked about his fight against inoperable brain cancer with Meadowlands' Sam McKee. With his trademark wit, Lederman gushed about how many of his friends from both thoroughbred and harness racing have shown their support.

"I've got to tell you something, Sam, I've had the best support club ever. Everybody, all my friends have come out of the woodwork - ones I haven't seen in years, and they've just been absolutely wonderful. Now you know why the home team gets a three-point spread in sports."

Lederman, who made a guest appearance to call the third race on Friday night, stated the tumour is malignant.

"The good news is I'm on chemo pills and they're not giving me any radiation and they're going to try to shrink it," admitted the voice of Freehold. "If it grows, things could get a little bit dicey but they think they can control it with the chemo. I'm being positive and I'll know better in about three months."

Sharp as ever, Lederman and McKee discuss how the former voice of Garden City Raceway got into the business and his experience in stand-up with Robin Williams in a not-to-be-missed interview.

Please join Standardbred Canada in wishing Larry Lederman a full recovery.

My thoughts and prayers are with Larry. It was great to see him at the Meadowlands last week, and I hope he recovers fully and quickly.

If anyone has the right attitude to handle this type of situation, it's Larry. Had the pleasure of working with him briefly a few years back and he's a great person and obviously one of the most unique and all-time best race callers this sport has seen.

All the best Larry...my thoughts and prayers are with you!

I would just like to say I'm fighting brain cancer too and my heart goes out to Larry and his family. My prayers are with you.

Larry, as a survivor through chemo, radiation, and more surgeries than I'd like to count, I know friends, and family support are what gets you through. Sending positive thoughts your way. Mary

The best announcer in harness racing, bar none.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery and hope to see you back in the booth soon.
