Addington Raceway Playing Post-Quake Role

Yesterday in New Zealand, an earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale rocked Christchurch at 12:51 p.m. local time. Although an amended death toll of 32 has been reported, officials in the area fear that number could rise

into the hundreds. Addington Raceway, the location of the upcoming Inter Dominions, has been a key locale in the aftermath.

According to a report by heraldsun.com.au, Addington Raceway, located in Christchurch, is currently being used as an evacuation centre. Although, it has been forced to close its doors due to high numbers.

The Inter Dominions are scheduled to take place March 25 and April 8 at the raceway.

The report quotes Inter Dominion Event Committee Spokesman Andrew Kelly as saying, "In the scheme of what's happened to Christchurch, it's a small issue, but it is something we will have to address."

Further reports out of Christchurch, which is now under a state of emergency, indicate that there have been 21 aftershocks which have been greater than 4.0 on the Richter scale, and that four of those aftershocks had a magnitude greater than 5.0.
