Armbro Chronicle Takes Open Trot

Armbro Chronicle summoned up all of his back class to score for the 41st time in his career in Tuesday’s $42,000 Open Trot at Mohawk Racetrack

.

The Kent Baker-trained eight-year-old son of Self Possessed towed driver Mike Saftic to a 1:53 effort in the seven-horse affair, and in doing so he went over $1.5 million in career earnings for Baker and partners Cal Patterson, Jo Anne Smith and Randy Fielder.

Armbro Chronicle got away third from his pole position perch, while Chick N Tell (Randy Waples) rolled the field to the quarter pole in :28.1. The landscape of the race changed as soon as the trotters hit the backstretch, with Saftic edging off the pylons and punching the accelerator with Armbro Chronicle.

The gelding roared to the top in the second quarter and he rolled the field through middle splits of :57 and 1:25.2. He came under pressure from Digital Image around the final turn, but used a :27.3 final frame to put away that foe and hold off the others in 1:53. Runner-up Slave Dream and third-place finisher Tacs Delight turned in huge rallies to get within a half-of-a-length of the winner at the finish line.

Armbro Chronicle is one of 27 horses still eligible to this month’s Maple Leaf Trot at Mohawk Racetrack. The eliminations (if necessary) will be contest on Saturday, July 17 with the $820,000 (est.) final on Saturday, July 24.
