Kawartha Wraps 2021 Season

Racing for the year at Kawartha Downs concluded on Saturday (Oct. 2) with a 10-race card, where the meet’s leading horsepeople were honoured.

Though he had the driver’s title wrapped coming into the final card, Nick Boyd cemented his spot as the meet’s leading driver on the final card, adding four wins to complete the season with 31 victories. Tyler Jones finished second in the standings with 18 victories while Reg Gassien broke a tie for third with a win on Saturday before Doug Brown won a second to match Gassien’s 14 wins on the season.

John MacMillan and Thomas Riley came into the final card tied for the top spot on the standings, but two victories by MacMillan crowned him the meet’s leading trainer with 12 total victories. Thomas Riley finished second in the standings with 10 wins and Murray Brethour took third with nine.

With racing done at Kawartha Downs for 2021, the Peterborough oval will prepare to make renovations to its track as it looks to add race dates for the 2022 season. The 2022 race dates for Ontario's racetracks will be finalized and announced later this year.
