Grand River Record For Sicario

Sicario ($5.00) protected pylon position from the outset and coasted to a new track record for older trotting geldings in Wednesday's (Aug. 18) featured $11,500 Preferred 2-3 Handicap Trot at Grand River Raceway.

In rein to Austin Sorrie, the six-year-old Holiday Road gelding strode powerfully to the fore on approach to the first turn and seated back-row starter Tymal Houdini in the pocket through a :27.4 first quarter. Sicario maintained complete control of the terms throughout the mile, stepping through middle fractions of :56.4 and 1:25.2 before turning aside a mild first-over challenge from Wild And Crazy Guy on the far turn. Off the home turn, Sorrie chased after Sicario with mild encouragement, and he held sway to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:55.2. Tymal Houdini narrowly protected second from the pocket over the persistent Wild And Crazy Guy.

Richard Moreau trains 25-time winner Sicario for Pamela and John Hehn. His performance knocked three-fifths of a second off the previous divisional mark of 1:56, held jointly by Canbec Fridolin and Cool Muscle.
