Past captains of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs sure have been making news in the harness racing industry over the past 24 hours. It was just announced that Doug Gilmour is increasing his investment in an OSS filly, and now Kawartha Downs has divulged that one of the Leafs’ all-time greats will be at the Fraserville, Ont. oval this Saturday (July 20).

Officials with Kawartha Downs have informed Trot Insider that Toronto Maple Leafs legend and Hockey Hall of Fame member Darryl Sittler will be on-hand Saturday. Sittler will be available for autographs and pictures, and one lucky customer will be going home with a Toronto Maple Leafs #27 sweater signed by the man himself.

Kawartha is looking forward to presenting its 10-race Saturday program, which will feature a first-race post time of 7:00 p.m. The Peterborough-area oval will offer four Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots divisions for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings throughout the card. The OSS splits have been slotted as Race 2, 4, 7 and 9.

In addition to featuring Sittler and the OSS tilts, Kawartha will also be taking part in National Caretaker Appreciation Day on Saturday. For complete information on National Caretaker Appreciation Day, click here.

The OSS dashes and Sittler appearance will also be complemented by live music and prize giveaways throughout the evening.
