Surrealist Triples On Meet-Closing Card

Surrealist closed out the Truro Raceway meet with his third straight victory in the top $1,475 Winners Over class on Sunday afternoon (January 22).

Surrealist and trainer/driver Paul Langille reeled in Allstar Man, who was off to a quick start and built up a 10-length lead over his five rivals through opening panels of :28.1 and :57.2 over the 'good' track. Advancing from fourth during the first half-mile, Surrealist moved into second-place within three lengths of the pacesetter at the 1:28.3 third quarter mark and had him collared by the final turn en route to a 1:59.3 score. Pasta Vera tracked the winner throughout and finished three-quarters of a length behind in second while Allstar Man settled for third just over two lengths behind.

Owned by Dana Getto of New Waterford, N.S., the 11-year-old Modern Art gelding is now three-for-three to start the year following his 2016 campaign in which he was the North American co-leader for wins with 19 triumphs.

Surrealist is one of many horses in North America with a chart-topping three wins early in 2017. Among them is the undefeated three-year-old pacing colt Saulsbrook Lanny, who won the afternoon opener in 2:03.1 for driver Carl Isenor, trainer William McNeil and owners Mike Brealey and Saulsbrook Stables Inc. Four Starz Hold Em is also three-for-three this year after his 2:01.1 victory in the fourth race with Todd Trites driving for Don and Debbie Ellis.

The final race of the meet was won by 14-year-old Lil Orphan Cam in 2:02.3 for Jeff Ellis and Dawn Ellis Abbott, giving Trites his third driving win on Truro's six-race closing card.

There was a horse that raced at Tartan Downs(Sydney NS) in the 80's, Pagon Drummer, he was called the Iron Horse at the time. Well Surrealist has become the Iron Horse of NS for the past 3 years coming from the Iron family of racing the Getto Stable. Congrats to all involved in this horse from North Sydney to Inverness to Truro.
