Tactical Landing Tops Session One

There was no shortage of financial fireworks in Tuesday’s opening session of the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, and Martinez Equine had the room buzzing with a final bid of $800,000 on Hip 70 Tactical Landing.

Consigned by Hunterton Sales Agency Inc., Tactical Landing has some big shoes to fill being a full brother to the fastest two-year-old trotter of all-time, Mission Brief (1:50.2 - $1,599,587). The son of Muscle Hill-Southwind Serena is also a half-brother to Exemplar (1:53.2 - $210,432) and Earn Your Wings (1:54.4 - $155,098).

Only one yearling in North American sale history has fetched a higher final bid. Detour Hanover, a full brother to Donato Hanover, sold for $825,000 in 2011 as part of the Standardbred Horse Sales Co.'s Black Book.

Hip 1 Come See The Show kicked off the 2016 sale with an eye-catching price tag of $550,000. The daughter of Somebeachsomewhere was purchased outright by Richard Young of Boca Raton, FL. The filly is the second foal out of one of the fastest female performers of all-time, Put On A Show (1:47.3 - $2,406,628).

Hip 55 Pro Beach was purchased for $450,000 by Jimmy Takter. The son of Somebeachsomewhere-Darlins Delight is a full brother to the outstanding filly, Darlinonthebeach (1:49.1 - $848,869).

The opening session, which featured 87 yearlings, racked up total sales of $11,252.000 for an average sale price of $129,333. Last year’s opening session saw 98 yearlings sell for $10,734,000. The average for the 2015 opening session was $109,531.
