One Final Victory For Dunn

Veteran horseman Walter 'Boots' Dunn passed away Wednesday morning, but he got one more training victory hours later when Trustworthy Kid captured the $22,500 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.

Dunn, 85, of Cochranton, Pennsylvania, was a prominent and successful owner, breeder and trainer who also collected five national UDR driving championships. Because Dunn was the trainer of record at the time Trustworthy Kid was entered for Wednesday’s race, the victory will be added to Dunn’s stellar record.

Trustworthy Kid got away at the back of the back, but he moved five-wide into the final turn and blazed home for Brian Zendt to score in 1:55.4 over a “good” surface. TSM Photo Bugger rallied for second, a length back, while early leader Cantab Lindy saved show.

Dunn Stable owns the homebred Trustworthy Kid, a seven-year-old SJs Caviar-Penn Worthy Lane gelding who now boasts $365,502 in career earnings.

Mike Wilder piloted four winners on the 15-race card.
