The final card of the current meet of live harness racing at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park is scheduled for Saturday afternoon and will kick off with a first-race post time of 12:30 p.m.

Eagle Jolt has been listed as the morning line favourite (at odds of 5-2) for the ‘Deep Freeze Bounty Poker Tournament Pace,’ which is the afternoon’s ‘back-up class.’ The race will head to post at 3:30 p.m. Eagle Jolt, who is owned by Wilbur and Marie MacDonald, Orwell Cove, PE, gave Marc Campbell his 1,500th career driving win last week. Campbell and Eagle Jolt will start from Post 4 and should expect pressure from Smiley Bayama (who will be driven by Ron Gass) who was runner up in his last start in a snazzy 1:57.4. Likely To Win (Ken Murphy), Painted Desert (Corey MacPherson) and Oh To Be Me (Gary Chappell) complete the roster.

Best Risque will be looking to record her sixth consecutive win when she competes in the feature event on the program, which is the Open Mares Handicap (Race 10). The daughter of Cammibest-Risque Business will be handled by Charlottetown’s leading driver, Corey MacPherson, for trainer Brian Ladner and his co-owners Lillian and Kevin Ladner, Charlottetown. The mare is currently unbeaten in 2016, as she has recorded four wins since the calendar flipped. She posted 11 wins from 45 starts in 2015. A win this Saturday would put her at 50 lifetime victories.

Also, it’s official: driver Walter Cheverie is the 2015 Trot Challenge champion. The veteran reinsman, who celebrated 2,500 career wins this pats fall, ended the season with 329 points. Kenny Arsenault was second with 252, while Brian MacPhee finished third with 183. The points awarded on a 10-7-5 basis for a 1-2-3 finish with trotters at Red Shores. Johnston’s Salads and Keybrand Foods Inc. present a dollar per point to the top drivers.

It’s last call to purchase tickets on a Gold Cup & Saucer and Governor’s Plate prize package in the Classy Lane barn fire fundraiser. Tickets are $10 and are available at the Rewards Club in Charlottetown. The grand prize draw will be made after Race 10 on Saturday.
