In just her second start back since suffering a tendon injury, Buck I St Pat already has many of the sport’s older trotting mares shaking in their trotting boots.

Last year’s Dan Patch Award winner uncorked a brilliant performance in Friday’s $27,500 Preferred Mare Trot at The Meadowlands for the duo of trainer Ronnie Burke and driver Tim Tetrick.

After sitting a three-hole trip for most of the mile, Buck I St Pat staged a furious, first-over rally as the field headed into the final turn. Summertime Yankee, who got away with early fractions of :28.3 and :58.3 relinquished command to Buck I St Pat who kicked it into another gear as she rolled the field by the three-quarter pole in 1:27.3.

Tetrick let the six-year-old daughter of Jailhouse Jesse rattle home in :26.3 en route to freezing the teletimer in 1:54.1. It was five lengths back to Falls For You, who was sent off as the 4-5 favourite. Stage Show rallied to finish third.

It was the 32nd lifetime win for Buck I St Pat, who has banked $1,037,925 for partners Howard Taylor, Edwin Gold, Abraham Basen and Ron Fuller.

The duo of Tetrick and Burke also clicked in the $31,500 Invitational Trot with Four Starz Speed, who turned on the afterburners in the stretch to post a 1:53.1 victory.

The four-year-old son of Conway Hall, who has been a regular in the Preferred ranks at The Meadows, uncorked a :27.1 final frame to post the neck decision over Lets Get Serious N, who laid down panels of :28, :56.4 and 1:25.2 before giving way. Prayer I Am rounded out the top three. Race favourite Arch Madness came first-over before fading to finish fifth.

Four Starz Speed has constructed a 5-2-1 record in her first eight starts of the season for the partnership of Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, Howard Taylor and JJK Stables LLC. The gelding has banked $300,353 to date.
