Meet May's Calendar Photographer

Clive Cohen, of North York, Ontario, is the I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club’s Heart of Harness Racing Calendar photographer for May.

Clive’s shot of a sunset behind trainer Rene Dion warming up Ocean Mist Beauty on September 19, 2013, at Mohawk Racetrack was published on WEG’s Facebook page and was Standardbred Canada’s Media Excellence Award winner for Outstanding Photography in 2013.

If you’ve had the chance to be in the winner’s circle at either Mohawk or Woodbine Racetracks, you’ll have run across Clive. He’s been the Standardbred track photographer at Woodbine and Mohawk Racetracks since 1997, operating under the company name New Image Media. He got involved in the racing industry in 1996 when he started shooting for Dave Briggs at The Canadian Sportsman.

Clive’s interest in photography was sparked in high school and he used to have a darkroom in his basement where he “loved making black and white prints.”

His all time favourite photo that he’s taken over the years was the infield shot of Somebeachsomewhere winning the North America Cup (his favourite race) at Mohawk. (his favourite track, hands down!)

His favourite non-racing photos were the selfies he took of his wife and himself at Mardi Gras in New Orleans this past year. His wife and four children are his favourite subjects to shoot.

Earlier this year Clive won an International Media Award for his shot of 'Horses Racing in the Fog' that was published on the Woodbine Entertainment Website on October 2, 2014. This same shot earned Clive his second consecutive Media Excellence Award in the photography category.
