CALLING FOR PROMOTION AND UNIFICATION

Outside of Prince Edward Island, it’s easy to be pessimistic about the prospects for harness racing in the Atlantic Provinces, but there are signs of a turnaround.

Steve Morton, of Windsor, NS, is a veteran horseman who intervened to halt the permanent closure of Truro Raceway in 2013.

He is president of the Nova Scotia Harness Racing Industry Association and the Truro Harness Horse Owners Association, as well as the owner/trainer of many Standardbreds, including I C Anastro, who captured Truro Raceway’s award for top two-year-old filly pacer of 2013. The financial advisor says he has many interests, but the sport he loves and its survival at a regional level come first.
