Trainer Fears For Future

Allan Jones has campaigned one of the Maritimes' top performers over the last three seasons, but even that success can't keep him from wondering what the future holds for harness racing in his home province.

Jones, the 74-year-old co-owner and trainer of pacing mare Rambinglily, has banked nearly $100,000 in three seasons, and not even the harsh winter weather in New Brunswick can keep the pair from jogging on a plowed-out field next to his home. But the thought of not having harness racing nearly brings him to tears.

It was last August that Horse Racing New Brunswick launched legal action against the province due to lost revenue from VLT machines. Noting to Global News that the two sides are talking, Jones is hopeful that there is a light at the end of this tunnel.
