Goshen Yearling Sale Details Announced

Organizers with the Goshen Yearling Sale have announced details for the inaugural edition of the sale.

Via release, officials announced that the sale will take place on Sunday, September 13 and that it has already attracted quality consignments from Blue Chip Farms, Cameo Hills, Crawford Farms and Winbak Farms.

The annual harness horse auction will be held at the Mark Ford Training Center in Middletown, NY, and is scheduled for the afternoon immediately following the New York Sire Stakes Night of Champions at Yonkers Raceway.

"The location is ideal as it is within close proximity to many of the trainers and owners in the tri-state region that purchase yearlings," noted Joe Thomson, the owner of Winbak Farms, the second largest breeder in North America. "Several thousand Standardbreds are either raised or trained within a 75-mile radius of Goshen."

Tom Grossman, the owner of Blue Chip Farms, stated that, "The industry would benefit from more than one major northeastern yearling sale. The mid-September timing allows farms to stage yearling preparation well in advance of the other major sales."

Facility owner Mark Ford agrees. "The timing really helps the trainers, owners and potential purchasers who would already be in the area for the Night of Champions at Yonkers. We are excited to have a relatively captive audience, and we will have additional stalls available for those who would like to layover for both events."

The commission structure will also be advantageous for breeders, as horses selling for $50,000 or more pay just three per cent. Sale prices from $25,000 to $49,900 are charged just four per cent, with the base commission set at $500 or five per cent. The entry fee is just $350, making this an attractive choice for New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania-eligible colts and fillies. Entries close May 15.
