Update: Thursday Cancellations

After Northfield Park announced the cancellation of its harness racing card set for Thursday, February 19, The Meadows and Woodbine Racetrack followed with cancellations announced Thursday morning, and now Flamboro Downs and Miami Valley Raceway have followed suit as well.

The Meadows Racetrack & Casino has cancelled Thursday’s card due to frigid conditions. The track and its Harmar location remain open for simulcast viewing and wagering. Live racing at The Meadows resumes Friday, first post 12:55 p.m.

Due to extreme cold weather in northeast Ohio with wind chills expected to approach -30 degrees, Northfield Park announced the cancellation of its Thursday card on Wednesday night. Northfield will be open Thursday at 4:00 p.m. for full-card simulcasting. Live racing will resume on Monday, with a 6:00 p.m. post time.

Woodbine Racetrack has also cancelled its card set for Thursday, February 19 due to extreme cold temperatures and wind chill. The qualifiers scheduled for Thursday afternoon will now move to Friday, February 20 at 3:30 p.m.

Live harness racing at Woodbine is scheduled to resume Friday, February 20 at 7:25 p.m.

The second leg of the Miss Vera Bars Series, originally scheduled for Thursday’s card, has been cancelled. Any horse that entered the first or second leg of the series will be eligible to the final on Thursday, February 26.

After consultation with industry partners, officials from Flamboro Downs have announced that the track has cancelled its Thursday card of racing due to the extreme cold weather conditions predicted for the area tonight. Flamboro’s next scheduled day of racing is Saturday, February 21 with a first-race post time of 6 p.m.

Due to the severe arctic weather that has descended on the entire midwest, officials from Miami Valley Raceway have announced that the track has cancelled its Thursday night live racing program, as well as the two qualifiers scheduled for prior to the Thursday card. With the forecast calling for -5 degree Fahrenheit temperatures during racing hours and wind chill forecasts from a low of -17 to as high as -30, this action was taken to protect the well-being of the horses and participants.

The draw for Sunday’s program at Miami Valley will take place today on schedule. Horses that were scheduled to race tonight are welcome to re-enter for Sunday if the class they want exists on the condition sheet. The box closes at 1 p.m.

In addition to Woodbine, The Meadows, Northfield, Flamboro and Miami Valley, the following Thoroughbred tracks have also cancelled their respective Thursday cards of live racing:

Aqueduct
Charles Town
Penn National

Trot Insider will update this notice with additional cancellations as they are received.
