The season opener is almost here for 2014's Racing Under Saddle season in Ontario, and the year kicks off in a big way.

On Tuesday, July 1 RUS Ontario, in partnership with The Canadian Cancer Society, will hold the first “Trot for the Cure” under saddle race at Mohawk Racetrack to raise money for Cancer research. Of the moneys raised, 100 per cent will go towards the Canadian Cancer Society.

Riders will be wearing the signature yellow colours of the Cancer Society on their helmets, “Trot for the Cure” headbands on their mounts, as well as commemorative arm bands in memory of Jim Carr; a major sponsor of RUS Ontario in 2013 and an integral part of promoting Standardbred racing in Ontario. His passing early this year came as a great loss to the industry.

Pledges to The Canadian Cancer Society can be made through RUS Ontario by contacting Julie Walker; President, Sarah Town; Vice-President and Board Member Maggie Jones. Pledge forms will be made available to all riders and members of RUS Ontario. Donations will also be accepted trackside on July 1.
