Tracks Reach Race Date Pact

According to a report, officials from Hiawatha Horse Park, Dresden Raceway and the Lakeshore Horse Raceway Group have agreed on a proposed schedule of live racing for the 2014 season.

An article by the Sarnia Observer has quoted Hiawatha operator Jim Henderson as saying that the representatives reached the agreement yesterday (Tuesday, March 25). The plan still has to be approved by the Province.

The report states that the deal would see the three tracks – Hiawatha, Dresden, and Leamington Raceway – share roughly 60 live dates. Under the plan, Hiawatha would host 34 or 35 live dates, while the remainder of the dates would be split between Dresden and Leamington.

"The three tracks got together yesterday at a meeting between us and came up with a decent schedule that works for us," Henderson was quoted as saying.

"We're operating in a cooperative fashion and we're developing a plan to go forward to the [Ontario Racing Commission] to agree upon dates," Lakeshore Horse Racing Association General Manager Wayne Martinuik was quoted as saying.

Nice there will be racing at the three tracks but I hope all owners, trainers, etc. have other jobs.
