Hugh Woods Passes

Trot Insider has learned that veteran owner/trainer/driver Hugh Woods of Ashville, Manitoba passed away at his farm on Saturday, March 1 at the age of 73.

‘Hughie,’ who started his career in the 1960s, raced in Manitoba and Saskatchewan and supported rural horse racing in both provinces.

Grandpa Frisco, Prairie Drifter, Duff Love, and the hard hitting KJB Flying Albie were a few of the many that Hughie raced on the circuits.

Many of Hughie’s horses found their home at the farm when racing days were over.

Hughie is survived by his wife, Leanita, and daughters Kara-Lee and Hugh-Anne.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Hugh Woods.
