'Big M' Winter Late Closer Nom. Details

The deadline for nominees to the Meadowlands 2014 Winter Late Closing Program is December 15, 2013.

For three of the six events, the purses have been increased, according to Meadowlands Director of Racing Operations Darin Zoccali.

The six events are the Super Bowl, Charles Singer Memorial, Presidential, William ‘Buddy’ Gilmour, Horse & Groom and Clyde Hirt.

The Buddy Gilmour, formerly the Junior Trendsetter, is a non-winners of two or $30,000 life pace for three-year-old colts and geldings. The purse for the first leg on February 22 will be $17,500, up from $12,500; the second leg on March 1 will rise from $12,500 to $20,000 and the estimated $75,000 final on March 8 will have added money of $35,000, up from the previous $25,000.

The Horse & Groom for condition trotters will have first and second leg purses of $20,000 on March 14 and 21, up from $18,000. The added money for the $80,000 estimated final on March 29 will be $35,000, up from $30,000.

The Clyde Hirt for three and four-year-old condition pacers will feature an increase in the opening two rounds on March 15 and 22 from $16,000 to $20,000. The $75,000 estimated final on March 29 will include $35,000 in added money, up from $25,000 last year.

This is being accomplished without increasing the nominating fees, Zoccali noted.
