WFD Gears Up For Early Opening

The 2013 Fall Live Racing Season at The Raceway at Western Fair District will begin earlier than scheduled with the first program now set for Saturday, September 21 at 7:05 p.m. -- one of five additional programs being offered at the London oval in September.

Returning fans will notice some changes right away on opening night.

Shannon ‘Sugar’ Doyle will be the new voice of The Raceway after serving as Track Announcer and Assistant Race Secretary at Northlands Park in Edmonton for the past eight years. Doyle, who is known for his colourful style, will also assist with the track’s marketing and social media initiatives throughout the season.

New Executive Chef Ted Dodd will bring his passion for hand-made foods to the Top of the Fair Restaurant this season and is busy preparing his new menu for opening night. Some of the highlights that guests can expect include fresh, handmade artisan breads, gourmet soups, a potato bar, seasoned top sirloin carvery, interactive quesadillas and decadent desserts like the new almond bread pudding – just to name a few.

The Top of the Fair promises a first class dining experience - all at a new price this year of just $25.99 (except during the Christmas holiday season). Reservations for opening night are now being accepted by calling (519)-438-7203 (ext 252) or by emailing [email protected].

The new additional dates in September include the 23rd, 24th, 28th and 30th. Commencing on Tuesday, October 1, The Raceway will swing into its full schedule with racing every Monday and Tuesday at 4:05 p.m. and Friday nights at 7:05 p.m.

The race office wishes to advise horse people that in order to avoid conflicts for trainers and drivers the following draw days will be in place for September Only:

  • Draw Mondays for Saturdays
  • Double Draw Fridays for both Mondays and Tuesdays

Condition sheets will be made available this week online on the SC website and at westernfairdistrict.com.
