Somebeachsomewhere proved yet again that he is a true champion tonight at the Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford, New Jersey winning the last Breeders Crown event, the $500,000 Three-Year-Old-Colt Pace.

Honorable Daughter Snatches Breeders Crown Victory

Honorable Daughter and driver John Campbell kicked off the Breeders Crown Championships overcoming Post 7 in the $700,000 Two-Year-Old Filly Trot at the Meadowlands Racetrack on Saturday evening.

Musical Mystery (Mike Lachance) led the field to the first quarter in :28.1 but All Star Hanover (Dave Miller), who was parked during the opening panel, advanced shortly after to take her turn on the front end. As the field approached the half in :57.3, Yursa Hanover (Daniel Dube) popped out of the pocket and became the new leader.

Meanwhile, Honorable Daughter tipped out from fifth at the half and journeyed first-over through three-quarters in 1:26.2. The 4-5 favourite made steady progress down the stretch poking a nose in front right at the wire for the win in 1:55.3. Southwind Wasabi (Cat Manzi) was third.

"I think this was one of her best races of the year," Campbell said in a post-race interview. "She really had to gut it out and she was here when I called on her late and I was very proud of her tonight. The fractions were going to be stiff and didn't want to get her in a speed duel and have her get tired before the wire. I preferred to come with cover but it just didn't work out that way."

The daughter of Malabar Man – Honorable Mother is trained by Larry Remmen for Paolo Rosanelli and John Siena of Middletown, New York. The winner of nine races in 11 starts lifted her bankroll to $835,555.

Fox Valley Topaz Upsets In Breeders Crown Championship

Fox Valley Topaz and driver Dave Miller stormed home for the 10-1 upset in the $700,000 Breeders Crown Two-Year-Old Filly Pace at the Big M on Saturday.

Twist N Clout (John Campbell) led the field to the first quarter in a comfortable :28.3 before Break The News (Jody Jamieson) tipped out from third and claimed the lead.

Break The News set the tempo with panels of :56.1 and 1:24.3, but in a thrilling stretch drive, Fox Valley Topaz, a daughter of Sportsmaster – Theladyappealstome, rallied from the back of the pack to take her crown in 1:52.4 by three-quarters of a length.

Twist N Clout (John Campbell) found room at the rail to squeeze by for second and Racing Star (Yannick Gingras) finished third.

"Coming into the race I thought with a good trip, she'd have a good shot," Miller said after the race. "I didn't expect to be fourth over, though. I didn't think where I was sitting I had a shot of winning, but she had a big rally. Turning for home, I didn't think I had a chance. She really kicked off cover and just flew home."

The Ken Rucker trainee improved her record to 10-2-2 in 15 starts and lifted her bankroll to $628,880 for the Engel Stable LLC of Buffalo Grove and the Rucker Stable Inc. of Beecher, Illinois.

Kadealia Offers Biggest Payout In Breeders Crown History

Kadealia offered the highest win price in Breeders Crown history after putting forth a big effort to take the $500,000 Three-Year-Old Filly Trot at the Meadowlands Racetrack Saturday night.

Poster Pin Up took early command of the field ahead of the 75-1 longshot, Kadealia and driver Tim Tetrick, but Creamy Mimi (Andy Miller) settled on the front. After a soft :29.3 first quarter, the parked Lantern Kronos (John Campbell) moved to the lead and set the tone with panels of :59.1 and 1:28 as Poster Pin Up advanced first-over. Shuffled back to sixth and caught behind horses in the stretch, Kadealia found room to shoot up the rail for the half-length win in a career best time of 1:56.1.

Poster Pin Up finished second and Stage Show (Dave Palone) rounded out the top three.

"George [Teague] made a bridle change to the open and she was a lot more relaxed than last week," Tetrick said following the race. "Last week she was very tough to handle and pretty strong in the mouth and tonight, she was like a kitten. I was hoping for money at first and then I was following two good horses and the early flow and fractions were good. It worked out that I got out in time behind the leaders."

The daughter of Kadabra – New Ideal paid $152.00 to win.

Kadealia’s fourth lifetime victory boosted her bankroll to $545,392 for trainer George Teague and owner Elmer Fannin of Lincoln, Delaware.

World Record For Muscle Hill

Driven by Brian Sears, Muscle Hill triumphed in world record fashion in the $700,000 Breeders Crown Two-Year-Old Colts & Geldings Trot at the Meadowlands on Saturday.

Winning Mister (Mike Lachance) shot off the gate but made a break handing the lead to Keystone Activator (Andy Miller) by the :28.2 first quarter. Federal Flex (Jody Jamieson) was the first to move landing on top but Muscle Hill was hot on his helmet and cleared the front at the half in :57.1.

Explosive Matter (Ron Pierce) launched his challenge battling stride for stride with Muscle Hill to three-quarters in 1:25.1, but with urging from Sears, Muscle Hill secured the win pulling away by three lengths. The son of Muscles Yankee – Yankee Blondie crossed the wire in 1:53.3 – a world record for two-year-old trotting colts on a mile track.

Explosive Matter and Federal Flex finished second and third.

Muscle Hill hangs his harness in the Greg Peck barn. Muscle Hill scored his eighth consecutive win in nine starts. The bay colt has earned $817,301 in his career for Jerry Silva of Long Beach, New York and the T L P Stable of Kearny, New Jersey.

In Focus Aims Perfectly In 3YO Colt Trot

In Focus converted from the perfect pocket trip giving driver Dave Palone his first Breeders Crown win in the $500,000 Three-Year-Old Colts & Geldings Trot on Saturday at the Meadowlands Racetrack.

The fan favourite, Deweycheatumnhowe (Ray Schnittker), set out for the front leading the field through fractions of :27.4, :56.3 and 1:25.4. As the field turned for home, In Focus tipped out from the two-hole and coasted by ‘Dewey’ for the 15-1 upset in 1:53.4.

Holiday Credit (Ron Pierce) finish over four lengths back in second ahead of Deweycheatumnhowe.

"He's a little funny about his head and stuff but when Ray was on the front end going pretty stiff fractions, I was pretty happy," said Palone in a post-race interview. "When Ray spoke to 'Dewey' in the final turn, I could tell he wasn't really himself tonight, which worked out great for us."

"He's been getting better about getting the dirt hitting him in the face," Takter noted of the screen-wearing trotter. "The material is much coarser here at The Meadowlands and I was really worried about that hitting him in the face, but I think he's just about to get over with it."

The son of S Js Photo – Beverly Crusher notched his 13th career win and bumped his earnings to $661,193 for trainer Jimmy Takter and owners Christina Takter of East Windsor, New Jersey, John and Jim Fielding of Toronto, Ont.

Deweycheatumnhowe, who was diagnosed with a throat abscess last week, made his final start tonight and will stand at Walnut Hall Ltd. in Lexington, Kentucky for the 2009 breeding season.

“He had everything his own way, he just came up short. I really don't know,” Schnittker told Trot Insider following the race.

“I can come up with excuses but he just got beat by better horses tonight.”

The son of Muscles Yankee – Trolley Square is trained and owned by Schnittker with Theodore Gewertz, of New York, Charles Iannazzo of Tappan, New York and the Deweycheatumnhowe Stable of Lexington, Kentucky. In 25 starts ‘Dewey’ has compiled a record of 22 wins, one second, and two thirds earning over $3.1 million.

Well Said Takes Mark In Breeders Crown Final

In rein to Ron Pierce, Well Said took a new lifetime mark after rallying from off the pace to score in the $700,000 Breeders Crown Two-Year-Old Colts & Geldings Pace Saturday at the Meadowlands Racetrack.

Dial Or Nodial (Dave Palone) was the early leader but If I Can Lead (George Brennan) set out to prove he can lead reaching the first quarter station in :27.1. Rearing to go, Major In Art (Brian Sears) advanced to the top as Captain Sir (Jody Jamieson) applied pressure through panels of :55.2 and 1:23. Major In Art dug in as the field turned for home, but Well Said tipped off third-over cover and blasted on by for the win in 1:51.

Art Colony (Tim Tetrick) finished a length back in second and Dial Or Nodial was third.

The Western Hanover – Must See colt is trained by Steve Elliot for owners Jeffrey Snyder of New York, New York and Lothlorien of Cheltenham, Ont. The bay colt sports a record of 4-4-1 in 12 starts with $601,127 in earnings.

Miller Doubles Up In Breeders Crown Action

Dave Miller made his second trip to victory lane with A And Gs Confusion in the $610,000 Breeders Crown Three-Year-Old Filly Pace at the Big M on Saturday.

The daughter of Allamerican Native – Colorado Creek was the early leader reaching the first quarter pole in :28, but Btwnyurheartnmine (Tim Tetrick) advanced to make an appearance on the front end before Tug River Princess (John Campbell) took the lead at the half in :56. Following her cover was Knock Three Times (Andy Miller), who reached three-quarters in 1:22.4. Meanwhile, A And Gs Confusion, who was shuffled back to seventh, kicked into action charging home for the win in 1:51 by half a length.

Tug River Princess came back on for second and Native Bride (Brian Sears) was third.

A and Gs Confusion is trained by Casie Coleman and owned by the A And G Stables of Bronx, New York. The winner of $1,319,324 sports a record of 9-6-0 in 26 starts.

‘Beach’ Blazes In Breeders Crown Win

World record holder Somebeachsomewhere romped to victory in the $500,000 Breeders Crown Three-Year-Old Colt Pace on Saturday night at the Meadowlands Racetrack making his sophomore season the richest season of any pacer in history.

The Maritime pacing sensation, who accepted a bye to the final, headed straight to the front of the field from Post 3 with regular pilot, Paul MacDonell, in tow. The heavy 1-5 favourite carved out fractions of :27, :54.3, 1:22 before drawing away for the win in 1:48.3 and avenging his only career loss at the Big M on July 19 in the Meadowlands Pace.

Shadow Play (Dave Miller) rode the pocket to finish second and Blueridge Western (Dave Palone) finished third.

"I had the racetrack immediately and was letting the horses getting settled early and once we made the front, the rest was history," Macdonell said in a post-race interview. "You've got to respect a horse like Shadow Play, he's a great horse in his own respect. Basically I was thinking, 'bring me home buddy, one last time.' You've got to respect the other horses in there. Respect works both ways. I would have to think he'd get a pretty serious look for Horse of the Year. He's never raced a bad race, ever."

The son of Mach Three - Wheres The Beach is trained by Brent MacGrath for the Schooner Stables of Bible Hill, N.S. The winner of 20 races in 21 starts has earned $3,328,755 in earnings. Somebeachsomewhere’s win pushed his yearly earnings over Gallo Blue Chip’s $2.4 million in 2000 for the richest season of any pacer in history.

‘The Beach’ boasts a record including wins in some of the sport’s most prestigious races. One of his most eye-catching wins came on Sept. 27 in the Bluegrass Stakes at The Red Mile when he equaled the time of Holborn Hanover for the fastest race mile in harness racing history – 1:46.4.

Last year, Somebeachsomewhere shared honours as Canada's Horse of the Year (with Tell All) and he also won the O'Brien Award for two-year-old pacing colts.

He's set records on 1/2, 7/8 and Mile tracks, give him a shot at settin one on a 5/8 track. Win the matron Beach!!!
In response to a previous message, I think Canada's Male Athlete of the year is a great idea, get on it SC. No reason an athlete has to be human to win the award, can anyone name an athlete that has had a better year and represented Canada better this year than the Beach?? Regardless of species.

Gait should not prohibit comparison. All things being equal, trotters race against trotters and pacers race against pacers. So the success they have in that particular gait can be compared. Now if trotters had to race against Zebras and pacers raced against mountain goats then that argument might fly. A point system would give you the same outcome. Some owners and trainers would avoid lesser point races because they would be perceived as less important. Its the same old catch-22. Usually it isn't even close just like this year. The Breeders Crown yet again separated the wheat from the chalf. Dewey will finish where he should have always been in 2nd or 3rd behind SBSW and maybe Mr. Big or Shadow Play. The system only needs changing when the horse that you might like doesn't win. In the end Dewey raced in the Breeders he lost. No excuses. Shadow Play had two chances to beat SBSW in more than favourable conditions for him each time and he couldn't get the job done. No excuses. Art Official (SBSW nemisis..lol) couldn't handle a brutal stake schedule. No excuses. My last point which makes me chuckle the most, you didn't see Gingras pull the same garbage as he did in the M-pace (i know different horse)and I wonder why.

How about the Lou Marsh award? Secretariat has often been recognized in "best athlete" categories in the US. Somebeachsomewhere is that unique star who crosses into that stratosphere.

Futhermore I believe Standardbred Canada is the perfect voice to market this idea, Somebeachsomewhere deserves to be Canada's male athlete of the year, and who better to start the ball rolling.

Can you imagine that story breaking, it would be the perfect vehicle to take the story throughout the country. Mike Weir, Steve Nash, Wayne Gretzky . . . and today, Somebeachsomewhere.

What a thrill it has been to watch this amazing horse for the last two years. He has done everything that was asked of him and more. The anticipation of each race that he has been entered into has been almost as exciting as the race itself. It has been an absolute pleasure to witness one of the greatest horses winning so easily and doing on conditioning, training, athleticism, natural ability and heart. WOW!

Thank you, Beach, Mr. McGrath and everyone connected with this horse. He has given Canada a new hero and the world of standardbred racing a huge boost of confidence and just plain old "good feeling".

First it makes no sense comparing beach and dewey, one is a pacer the other a trotter, it's like comparing apples to oranges, it's pointless. Instead of argueing hopelessly over who should be voted horse of the year why not simply change the formatt and not leave it up to the whims of biased spectators.

Allot a certain # of points for stakes races. For example the jug 20 points because one must win two heats to win. The meadowlands pace 10 as it takes only one win. The Cane 10, the Messenger 10, the Adios 7, 5 or whatever.. get the drift. The same goes for trotters in their major stakes races.

That way everyone knows ahead of time where they need to race and how many races are needed to be proclaimed horse of the year. It is the only fair and equitable way for one and all. You know going in, no excuses!!

Where are the sceptics? Dewey was beat! If he was so good why didn't he win? No excuses, he isn't the best. Somebeachsomewhere wins!! He was parked to the quarter and he rolled him through very honest fractions and still came home in 26.3 and the only time another horse could look him in the eye was at the starting gate. Lets see who had the easier trip? Shadow Play stretched SBSW out at the quarter and sat in the two hole and he still couldn't convert...sorry couldn't get to his wheel. Where was Art Official? I know the answer, healing an injury from a tough stakes campaign just like every other top calibre 3 year old, but while he is on the shelf the best are still racing. Case closed, the lady has sang her last tune. Please put this discussion to bed....Beach is the Champion.

Congratulations on a wonderfull ride. I've watched every one of his races many times and I think the only race he lost was his best race.
Everyone connected with this horse did a splendid job.

It'll be a long time before the world sees a pacer of his calibre. Lucky enough to see him live at Flamboro Downs. What a magnificent animal. All the best to SBSW and connections.

Unbelievable!. What a way for the Beach to end his amazing career. Tip of the hat to Shadowplay for a valiant effort. All your fans from the west coast of Canada want to thank you for the great memories. In all my years in the business I have never seen a horse bring so many people to their feet each and every time he raced, whether it was standing trackside, sitting at a simulcast parlor, or at a barn party glued to the television. We'll miss you Beach, but we won't soon forget all of your remarkable achievements.
