Chantal's Awesome Trip Home

While the main photo Chantal Sutherland posed for on Sunday was in the winner's circle at Woodbine, she was also able to pose for a different photo prior to Tuesday's appearance on late night TV with comedian Conan O'Brien.

Trot Insider received the photo featured here with Sutherland, her brother Hugh and husband Dan Kruze after winning Sunday's feature race at Woodbine - the $250,400 Wonder Where Stakes aboard Awesome Fire. Sutherland, who guided Awesome Fire to a third-place finish in the Ontario Lassie in December, was impressed with how the filly has matured.

“She was really responsive,” said Sutherland. “When I hit the three-eighths, I really asked her, and she started to run. When I got on her last year, she was a little more nervous. She was really calm today.”

Owner Hugh Sutherland (Urban Fire Corp.) was thrilled with the effort of his sister to relax Awesome Fire after breaking outward at the start.

"She's the real deal," he said. "I thought we were stuck in the gate. I thought it was all over. Chantal pulled it out of her hat again."

On Tuesday night, Sutherland will be appearing on Conan O'Brien's late night TV show (TBS, 11pm ET). According to sources, Sutherland hopes to discuss the situation facing Ontario's racing industry during her interview segment.

The sign in the photo above is being made available on a first-come first-serve basis by Sutherland's father Hugh and standardbred owner Marv Chantler: aka Mardon Stables. Both Chantler and Sutherland told Trot Insider that signs are up in the Caledon area now and they have had numerous requests for these signs, available as both two-sided lawn-stake type signs or one-sided wall-mounted signs with grommets.

Signs are available for pickup at Mardon Stables; RR#2, 2996 Conc 7; Loretto, ON L0G 1L0 or Sutherland's farm in Caledon.

Disappointed that Chantal Sutherland mentioned nothing about the state of the horse racing industry during her appearance on Conan O'Brien. I was really looking forward to her speaking out on this topic. Pity.

Looking forward, Chantal, to seeing you on the Show on the Conan TV Tuesday night.
I also wish you and the new man in your life all the best. Your ride in the Wonder Where was excellent--last to first. Loved the price, as well!!!!

Perhaps your husband could be your agent--keep the money in the family, no?

This is exactly what Ontario horse racing needs---an attractive face to take our message to the public. Ms. Sutherland has the youth, the experience, the passion, the family history, the success, the accessibiity to the media that is required to do a great job. Many thanks to her for getting out there and getting it done while the rest of us bang our heads against a brick wall. It's the people of the GTA (Liberal territory)who we need to educate about Mr. McGuinty's plan to destroy racing as we know it.

last night I spoke to about 10 different people at a bbq.Not one of them realized what was going on with the SAR program. We need to do something drastic so the word can get out.For now it is not in the mainstream.Block 401,bring your broodmares to Queens Park. This will get us a spot on national news.Check out the scared look Duncan has on his face when Marty Aproaches him. They are in fear of the general public learning what is going on.Nobody knows what is going on with Larry Tannenbaum and the deal the liberals have made with him.
Horseman need to do something that will put them in the spotlight.
Shut Down 401, this will get huge national attention and will also get the attention of the Federal Government.I can't figure why the other governments don't defeat this government. There prime for the picking !!!
Great sign Chantel!!!
