Harness racing at Charlottetown Driving Park

Blaine MacPherson, Chair of the PEI Harness Racing Industry Association, announced on Thursday, Oct. 5 that there will be increased purse levels for all stakes and overnight competitors racing on Prince Edward Island in 2024.

"We have developed a budget for next year which reflects government commitment to increase all our stakes purses, as well as to our overnight purse pool," said MacPherson.

"We would also like to thank David MacKenzie and his Red Shores team for their efforts, which has seen an increased contribution to the provincial purse pool from wagering."

The announcement comes just before the 2023 Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale, which will be held this Friday, Oct. 6 at 11:30 a.m. at the Crapaud Exhibition Grounds.  A special Sale Preview will be held Thursday, Oct. 5 from 4-8 p.m. to allow prospective bidders and buyers an opportunity to see the quality offerings in this year's sale.

"Everyone is welcome to attend the sale," said Sales Manager Julie Jamieson. "We have increased our seating capacity and will be able to accommodate all who wish to attend."
