Heart of Harness Racing Calendar's July photo

Lori Martin of Hanover, Ont. is the photographer for the July image in Standardbred Canada’s Heart of Harness Racing Calendar.

Martin, who can be found at Hanover Raceway throughout the summer, and always with her camera in hand (when she’s not grooming!), captured this photo at the inaugural Ontario Women’s Driving Championship at Hanover Raceway during the first leg of the competition. 

“I just love the vantage point from the infield and the action coming to half," said Martin. "And when I’m not grooming, the next best thing for me to do is capture photos of the drivers and horses during a race.” 

Standardbred Canada has asked Martin some “Rapid Fire” questions to gain a little bit more insight into her harness racing history and favourites. Here’s what she had to say:

How many years have you been involved in harness racing?
Forty-six years.

Are you a harness racing fan, owner, groom or trainer?
Groom/fan. 

What is your favourite racetrack?
My hometown track, Hanover Raceway.

Who is your favourite horse of all time?
Active Angel, our very first filly.

What is your favourite subject to photograph aside from horses?
Nature.

Where is your favourite spot to take photos?
Infield of the racetrack.

Who is your favourite harness driver?
Bob McClure.

If you could take photos for one day anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Portugal.

Name one racetrack that you want to attend that you haven't yet.
Goshen Historic Track.

What is your favourite race of all time?
Battle of Waterloo and Battle of the Belles.
