I Get It Gets Up At Northville

I Get It

I Get It sat at the back for the majority of the $28,000 TrackMaster Rating Final Trot on Friday (June 24) at Northville Downs, but he was on the lead when it mattered the most.

Enchanted Mission and driver Marc St. Louis, Jr, set sail on the field of seven trotters from the word go, tripping the beam to the quarter pole in :28, half in :57 and looked to be gone heading to three-quarters in 1:26.3. A misstep at the three-quarter pole, however, gave the lead to Travlin Swan (Art McIlmurray) through the head of the stretch. I Get It and owner/trainer/driver Bob Rowland cruised up on the outside from last and took over down the stretch, drawing away by a length to victory in 1:57.

It was the 43rd victory in the 81st career start for the Ohio-bred six-year-old gelding I Get It (Dontyouforgetit – Less Stress), who was bred in Ohio by John Miller.

Earlier on the night, two non-wagering Michigan Mini Series Finals were contested. Memory Makin (Tellitlikeitis – Bronwen Seelster) took the first of those in near track record time, stopping the clock in 1:55 — just one fifth off the previous record for three year-old pacing geldings set by Smarter Yet in 1:54.4 in 2010.

Explosive Empress captured the $15,000 Michigan Mini Series Final for conditioned trotters, equaling the track record for three-year-old trotting fillies of 1:58.4 previously set by Sea Feather in July of 2016.

Driver Rick Dobson sent Explosive Empress to the early lead, yielded to another track-record holder in Saulsgood and driver Art McIlmurray just past the quarter pole. They sat the pocket until the paddock turn when Dobson then pulled the right line and the Empress trotted on by to win going away by a widening length.

Explosive Empress has exploded on the Michigan trotting scene of late and has now reeled off three wins in a row, four wins in her last five starts, for owner-driver Rick Dobson and conditioner Monica Krist. Explosive Empress, a daughter of Explosive Matter, was bred by Mario T Mazza.

Northville Downs will race its next live program on Saturday, June 25. First race post time is 7:30 p.m., with only one live race card remaining in the Spring meet. Live harness racing will return to Northville, Michigan on September 9, 2022.
