Claiming Mares Spar In Wilson’s Tack Sequel

Snowy start at Western Fair

Round two of the Wilson’s Tack Claiming Series went postward Monday evening at The Raceway at Western Fair District, with a trio of $8,000 divisions carded for the distaffers.

Sparkle Farkle made a big move at the three-quarter pole en route to posting a narrow triumph in the first division.

Scott Wray got away fourth with the five-year-old daughter of Vintage Master-Shellace while Ma Rebelle fired to the front and laid down first-half fractions of :28.3 and :58.2. Godiva Mackiavelyc popped the pocket in the backstretch and sprinted to the top while racing parked past the three-quarter pole in 1:28.1. Sparkle Farkle was hustled up three-wide at that point and then used a :30.2 closing quarter to win by a nose over race favourite Godiva Mackiavelyc in 1:59. Gin Twist was third.

Trainer Michael Stamp co-owns the mare with Janet Larcombe of Clinton, ON. It was the first win of the season from 11 attempts for the two-time winner. She’s banked over $30,000 to date.

Taydertotzz was the only repeat winner in the series thanks to her 1:58 decision in the second split.

Travis Henry got away third with the Paul MacKenzie trainee while Siboney marched to the top and put up fractions of :29.2, :59.3 and 1:28.2. Taydertotzz came first-over on the way to the half, and she was just a head behind the leader as the group headed into the final quarter of the contest. Taydertotzz used a :29.3 final frame to post the win by 2-1/2 lengths over Northern Belle. Rosella was third.

The mare improved her 2022 record to 2-2-1 from 11 starts with the win. The 16-time winner, who was claimed from the winning effort, posted the victory for owner Sue MacKenzie of Kensington, PE. She’s closing in on $100,000 in career earnings.

True Horizon was a solid runner-up in week one of the series, but she took her game to a new level with her winning effort in Monday’s second-leg assignment.

Colin Kelly got away fifth with the seven-year-old daughter of Vertical Horizon-The Three Of Us while Kempenfelt (:28.4) and Moramappo (:59.4 and 1:29.3) took turns on the lead. True Horizon tracked cover to the half before making a three-wide move on the way to the three-quarter pole. True Horizon then used a :29.2 closing quarter to win by 1-1/2 lengths over race favourite Sr Beach Babe in 1:59.2. Style Snapshot was third.

Trainer Jake Robert shares ownership on the mare with Steve Adams of Toronto, ON. She’s put together a 2-1-0 record from six starts this season. The 16-time winner has socked away close to $100,000 in lifetime earnings.
