Officials with Harness Racing New Brunswick have confirmed with Trot Insider that decorated driver Gilles Barrieau, who was on the cusp of a comeback from a broken wrist and fingers, will now miss a significant amount of time after having been kicked by a yearling Wednesday

, November 23.

Barrieau, who has steered his mounts to over 3,500 wins in his career, suffered a broken femur (leg) in a stable incident at Exhibition Park Raceway when he was struck by the yearling colt.

HRNB has confirmed that Barrieau underwent surgery Wednesday night and is expected to be sidelined for an indefinite amount of time.

Barrieau had been close to making a return to the track after having sustained a broken wrist and fingers October 2 during an accident at Truro Raceway in Nova Scotia.

Please join SC in wishing Gilles Barrieau a quick and full recovery from his injuries.

Gilles, am a friend of Pops and know of your brother, the Priest. We all pray for you and know you will get back soon. Good thing that yearling didn't break Sam Trombley's leg. God Bless Dick Terrien, Burlington, Vt.
