Takter On His 'Peelers' Crown Rationale

Jimmy Takter surprised many in the racing world yesterday when it was announced that he had entered his pacing dynamo See You At Peelers to contest this weekend's Breeders Crown eliminations at Woodbine Racetrack, but it was the headline-grabbing filly that had done the real surprising earlier that morning

.

After having not recorded a charted mile since September 4, the three-year-old Bettors Delight filly qualified October 14 at Freehold Raceway. The layoff had come to do a heart issue which had reared its ugly head, and though Takter said that his star pupil put in a good qualifying mile, he said that the Breeders Crown was likely not in the works for See You At Peelers.

So what was it that changed so drastically in four days?

“She trained awesome yesterday; she was fantastic,” Takter told harnessracing.com in regard to the training mile the iron-tough filly put in at his New Jersey farm. “She’s looking super. She’ll probably be a little short (in her Breeders Crown elimination on Saturday), but hopefully she’ll go a good race and make the final.”

And when Takter said it was a last-minute decision to enter See You At Peelers to the Crown he really wasn't kidding.

“I called her entry in at 10:28,” Takter said. “It was a last-minute decision I had to make to make sure she was OK and be competitive.”

See You At Peelers has drawn Post 2 in her seven-horse elimination for the Breeders Crown Three-Year-Old Filly Pace, which has been carded as Race 9 (10:18 p.m.) on Woodbine Racetrack's Saturday, October 22 program of racing.
