Palazzo Princess Rallies In Preferred

Trailing by 10-1/2 lengths at the quarter and forced to attack fourth over, Palazzo Princess rallied wide in the slop to complete an improbable victory in Friday’s $22,500 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows

.

Although Palazzo Princess had won nine races this year, including her last two, she seemed destined for a minor award when Eric Ledford shed cover and moved her wide around the final turn. The four-year-old daughter of Jate Lobell-Hawaiian Exotica ignited the after burners and scored in 1:54.4, a neck better than Forever Ivy in the Lightning Lane. Personal Ad finished third.

Paul Kennedy trains Palazzo Princess, who now boasts career earnings of $393,224, for owner-breeder Paint Creek Farms of Rochester, Michigan.

Dave Palone drove four winners — three for trainer Ron Burke — on the 15-race card.
