Killean Cut Kid Wires Marquis Open

Killean Cut Kid went all the way, turning back a challenge from Oakridge Rambler, to win the $1,700 Open Pace on Saturday night at Marquis Downs

.

Trainer-driver Kelly Hoerdt sent Killean Cut Kid to the lead from Post 2 and put up early fractions of :28 and :59 before facing pressure from the first over Oakridge Rambler, a winner in his lasting Open outing on Sept. 25.

Killean Cut Kid shook of that rival past the third quarter mark of 1:28.2 and used a :28.3 final frame to seal the deal. The popular son of Mach Three-Winning Lin stopped the clock in 1:57 with Dance Step (Tyler Redwood) finishing over a length behind and Whitesand Lord (Brian Gray) third.

Killean Cut Kid, who last raced at Alberta Downs on Aug. 30, has won four times in 19 starts this year earning $21,865 for Hoerdt and partner Blair Corbeil of Beaumont, Alta. The win was lucky number 13 for the five-year-old gelding and lifted his career bankroll to nearly $90,000.
