Tex Moats Passes

Standardbred horseman Tex Moats, 76, of Fairfield, Illinois, passed away at his home on Friday, May 1, 2020.

Moats, who was a well-known trainer, was inducted into the Illinois Harness Racing Hall of Fame in 2005.

Tex was born in Mt Erie on August 8, 1943, to Rex and Iva (Burkett) Moats.

Tex is survived by his daughters, Sheila Williams, Beth and Ivy (Aaron) McCune; grandchildren, Zach (Sarah) Reever, Morgan Williams, Lucas Reever, Tyler Remi McCune, and River McCune; and great-grandson, Jaxden Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Glennis and Ross.

A private funeral service will be held at the Victory Outreach Christian Center in Fairfield with burial in Graceland Cemetery in Albion.

Tex always said he “just wanted to be remembered as that dang ole coon hunter.”

Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home is in charge of all the arrangements.
