Frosh Fillies In Flight At Summerside

Woodmere Skyroller was determined to land in the winner’s circle, and she made the front end hold up in her Atlantic Sires Stakes division Wednesday evening (July 10) at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway as part of Governor’s Plate Week racing.

With Gilles Barrieau at the lines, Woodmere Skyroller guarded the rail in her $12,920 Atlantic Sires Stakes 'A' division for two-year-old pacing fillies and marched through fraction of 30.3, 1:01.4 and 1:32.3. While the filly tripped those splits, her biggest rival, Watch Me Dance (Mark Bradley), sat in the pocket. Watch Me Dance took her charge down the stretch, but Woodmere Skyroller held her off by a neck in 2:01.1 for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson. Third place went to Woodmere Nasha (Kenny Arsenault).

Ezra Express found the wire first in the other $12,920 'A' division with a 2:03.4 score for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owner Danica Ellis. Tobins Choice (Gary Chappell) was second with Howmacrivercruiser (Barrieau) finishing third.

The $2,500 Atlantic Sires Stakes 'B' division went to Saulsbrook Ocean and driver Dale Spence, stopping the clock in 2:04.1 for trainer Joe Baxter and owners Al McNeil and Louis Willinger.

In overnight racing action, Medici Hanover scored a 20-length romp in race two to tie the 1:55.1 track record for sophomore fillies held by Elm Grove Inarush. David Dowling drove the three-year-old daughter of Sportswriter for trainer Don Milligan and owners Kent Williams, Andrew Williams and Lyndon Hardy.

Top Of The Morning scored a mild upset in The Rocket Chief Harvey and Randy MacEachern Memorial Pace, posting a 2:00.1 score for trainer-driver Kyle Gillis.
